Android App Development Cost in 2026: Ranges, Drivers and How to Estimate
Launching on Android first sounds like the cheaper route. It is, but by less than most founders expect. Here is what an Android app costs, what going Android-only actually saves, and how to estimate your own.

Indicative Android app cost
These ranges use the method behind our app cost calculator: weeks of senior engineering multiplied by an indicative blended rate of $1,800 to $3,200 per week. They are planning ranges, not quotes.
| Android-only app | Scope | Weeks | Indicative range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lean MVP | accounts, push notifications, managed backend | about 6 | $11k to $19k |
| MVP with payments | the above plus payments | about 8 | $14k to $26k |
| Market-ready | payments, admin dashboard, analytics, custom API, custom UI | about 22 | $40k to $70k |
What Android-only really saves
In our model, building for one platform trims about 10 percent against building for both from a shared codebase. The market-ready example above is about 22 weeks on Android alone and about 25 weeks for iOS and Android together.
The saving is small because most of the work is shared: the backend, the business logic, the design and the testing of flows. The second platform adds comparatively little when both come from one React Native codebase. We explain the trade-off in native vs cross-platform.
So choose Android-only for a product reason, not mainly to save money:
- Your users are overwhelmingly on Android.
- You need hardware or system features specific to Android.
- You want one store's feedback before widening the launch.
What drives Android cost
Device range
Android runs on many screen sizes, chipsets and OS versions. Supporting older and lower-end devices increases testing and performance work.
Features
Payments, chat, maps, offline sync and AI each add weeks. The app cost estimator guide lists typical figures.
Backend
A managed backend is cheapest. A custom API adds about three weeks, and real-time at scale about five.
Design
Standard components are quickest. Custom UI adds about a fifth, and premium animated design about two fifths.
Play Store requirements
Store policies, data-safety declarations and testing requirements take time before launch. Our launch checklist covers them.
Native Android or cross-platform?
Native Kotlin makes sense when the app depends heavily on Android-specific capabilities. For most business apps, a cross-platform codebase gives you Android now and iOS later with little extra work. See Kotlin Multiplatform vs React Native and React Native vs Flutter.
Costs after launch
Plan for maintenance of roughly 15 to 20 percent of build cost per year, as new Android versions and library updates arrive, plus hosting and third-party fees. See app maintenance cost.
How to estimate your own Android app
- Write the core loop and feature list. Our guide to scoping an app shows how.
- Open the cost calculator and choose "Android only".
- Switch to cross-platform and compare. The difference is what a second platform would cost.
- Book a call for a fixed-price proposal.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to build an Android app in 2026?
Using our method, a lean Android MVP is about 6 weeks and roughly $11k to $19k, and a market-ready Android app with payments, an admin dashboard and a custom backend is about 22 weeks and roughly $40k to $70k. These are indicative ranges.
Is it cheaper to build only for Android?
Slightly. In our model a single platform is about 10 percent less than building both from one shared codebase, because most of the work is shared.
Should I build native Android or cross-platform?
Choose native when the app relies on Android-specific capabilities. For most business apps a cross-platform codebase is more economical and makes adding iOS later straightforward.
What makes Android apps more expensive to test?
The range of devices, screen sizes and OS versions. Supporting older and lower-end phones adds testing and performance work.
How long does it take to build an Android app?
About 6 weeks for a lean MVP and about 22 weeks for a market-ready product in our examples, depending on features, backend and design.
