How to Hire React Native Developers in India (2026): Models, Vetting and Contracts
India has one of the largest pools of React Native engineers in the world, which is both the opportunity and the problem. The talent is there. The work is telling a senior team from a CV farm when you are hiring from another country.

Three ways to hire in India
Freelancer
One developer, hired directly or through a marketplace.
- Good for: a small, well-defined task or an extra pair of hands for your own team.
- Watch for: no cover if they are ill or leave, and nobody reviewing their code.
Dedicated developer or team
Engineers employed by an Indian company who work only on your product, usually billed monthly.
- Good for: a product with a long roadmap, where you have someone technical to direct the work.
- Watch for: you are still the product and engineering manager. If you cannot direct the team, this model struggles.
Agency or studio, fixed scope
A team that takes responsibility for delivering a defined product at an agreed price.
- Good for: founders without an in-house technical lead, and first versions with a clear scope.
- Watch for: the scope must be written down. Vague scope plus a fixed price ends in arguments.
Our general guide to hiring React Native developers covers skills and interview questions in depth.
How to vet a team from abroad
- Ask for live apps on both stores and use them. Screenshots prove nothing.
- Ask who will write the code. Meet those people, not only the salesperson.
- Check seniority. Ask how many years the lead has shipped React Native, and whether they have handled a New Architecture migration. See our New Architecture guide.
- Request a small paid trial. One or two weeks on a real task shows communication, code quality and pace.
- Read a code sample. If you are not technical, pay an independent reviewer. A short consulting review is cheap insurance.
- Talk to a past client, ideally one in your own country.
Time zones and communication
India is 4.5 to 5.5 hours ahead of the UK, and about 9.5 to 13.5 hours ahead of the US, depending on the season and coast. In practice:
- UK and Europe: a comfortable shared working window most of the day.
- US East Coast: a short morning overlap. Agree a fixed daily slot.
- US West Coast: little natural overlap. You need written updates and a team willing to shift hours.
Ask for a written daily or twice-weekly update, a weekly demo of working software, and access to the task board. Good teams offer these without being asked.
Contracts, IP and data
- IP assignment. The contract should state that all code and designs belong to you once paid for.
- Source control in your name. The repository, store accounts and cloud accounts should be yours from day one.
- Confidentiality. A signed NDA and clear rules on who can access your data.
- Data protection. If the app handles personal data of Indian users, the DPDP Act applies. See our DPDP guide.
- Payment by milestone. Tie payments to working, demonstrated software.
- Tax. Ask your accountant how invoices from an Indian supplier are treated in your country.
What it costs
Rates in India vary widely with seniority and model, so compare on weeks of work, not on hourly rate alone. A cheaper developer who needs twice the weeks is not cheaper.
For a fixed-scope build, any estimate comes down to weeks multiplied by a rate. Our app cost calculator shows an indicative range, and app development cost in India explains what moves it.
Mistakes to avoid
- Choosing on price alone. Rebuilds cost more than doing it once.
- No written scope. Write one first. Our guide to scoping an app shows how.
- Letting the vendor own the accounts. Keep the repository and store accounts in your name.
- Skipping the trial. Two paid weeks tell you more than ten calls.
- No handover plan. Ask how you would move the project to another team if you had to.
Frequently asked questions
How do I hire React Native developers in India?
Decide between a freelancer, a dedicated team and a fixed-scope agency, shortlist teams with live apps on both stores, meet the engineers who will do the work, run a short paid trial, and sign a contract that assigns IP to you.
Is it safe to outsource app development to India?
Yes, with the usual safeguards: IP assignment in the contract, the repository and store accounts in your name, an NDA, and payments tied to demonstrated milestones.
How do I manage the time difference with an Indian team?
Agree a fixed daily overlap, ask for written updates and a weekly demo, and keep work visible on a shared task board. UK and European clients share most of the working day. US clients need a planned overlap.
Should I hire a freelancer or an agency in India?
A freelancer suits a small, well-defined task. An agency suits a full product, especially if you do not have a technical lead of your own.
How much does it cost to hire React Native developers in India?
It depends on seniority, model and scope. Compare vendors on the weeks they estimate for the same written scope, and use the cost calculator for an indicative range.
